Hungary signs strategic partnership with Microsoft

13 December 2012

The Hungarian government signed a strategic partnership with Microsoft on Wednesday. This is the government’s eighth partnership deal. In September, State Secretary for Foreign Policy and Economy Péter Szijjártó announced that the government plans to sign an additional 40 partnerships in the near future. The aim of these partnerships is to make foreign-owned and export-focused companies feel more at home in Hungary.
Under the agreement with Microsoft, the government will bring to life a national digital public education portal and a digital home program, which is already in advanced stage. Szijjártó stressed that Microsoft pays more than HUF 500m in corporate income tax and nearly HUF 1bn in contributions annually. Its wage cost exceeds HUF 3 bn. Microsoft has 3,000 Hungarian partners and employs around 50,000 people. More than 60% of these partners are Hungarian-owned businesses.
