Mechel suspends operations in Romania and Ukraine

The Russian mining and steel giant Mechel announced it is temporarily halting production at its facilities in Ukraine and Romania in order to cut costs and streamline its output to meet market demands. The Romanian facilities affected by this decision are Mechel Targoviste, Ductil Steel Buzau, Laminorul Braila and Mechel Campia Turzii.

Production at Mechel Targoviste will be temporarily suspended starting Tuesday, while production at Ductil Steel Buzau, Laminorul Braila and Mechel Campia Turzii will be temporarily halted starting Dec. 15, according to the company. Production at Mechel’s Donetsk Electrometallurgical Plant in Ukraine will also be temporarily shut.
