Raed Arafat named new health minister

9 November 2012

Raed Arafat has been named the new Health Minister of Romania. Prime Minister Victor Ponta had been the interim health minister since October, following the resignation of Vasile Cepoi, who left the post amid corruption allegations.

Arafat previously served as the state deputy secretary for the Health Ministry. He was appointed to the position in August 2007. Arafat is also the program coordinator of the Mobile Emergency and Intensive Therapy Service (SMURD), which he set up in 1990.
