Romania will be able to start exporting natural gas at the beginning 2013, the state secretary with the Ministry of Economy, Rodin Traicu, announced.
Romania has a gas pipeline connected with Hungary, which was completed in 2010 and at the moment is only used for import. The country also has two other pipeline connections currently under construction with Bulgaria and Moldova.
There are two major gas producers in Romania, Romgaz Medias and OMV Petrom, which provide two-thirds of the country’s gas consumption. The rest is imported from Russia through intermediaries.
