The German car company Opel opened a new €500m factory in Szentgotthárd in western Hungary. The Hungarian government supported the project with HUF 5.5bn in funding. The country’s prime minister Viktor Orban was on hand for the new plant’s inauguration. The factory will add 800 jobs to the local market, and company officials said that operations will begin in December. Orban predicted thousands of additional jobs for suppliers of the car manufacturer.
