Funding has been secured by the European Commision to build what is being called the world’s most powerful laser, according to the news server Jurnalul.ro.
The laser will be assembled at the Magurele nuclear physics research facility outside Bucharest.
The European Commission approved €180m in funding, but costs could reach as much as €356.2m. A new high-tech center for the laser will be built on the Magurele campus by 2015.
Laser assembly will begin shortly after completion of the building, according to Jurnalul.ro.
