Buildings in the Czech Republic will have to install energy labels starting next year. The lower house of Parliament overrode President Václav Klaus’ veto and approved the labeling, which displays a building’s energy consumption levels. The move is part of an amendment made to the energy management law, which brings the country in line with EU regulations. The EU is also demanding public buildings have minimal to zero energy consumption by 2018. All newly built buildings will have to meet this criteria by 2020. Next Finance analyst Markéta Šichtařová told the daily Metro that the new regulation will increase costs for property owners. “Only the auditors, who will provide the labels, will benefit from it. Energy consumption is usually not the decisive criterion for people who buy a house,” she said.
