In what is being touted as “Euro Vegas,” construction of a mega casino center in the Hungarian village of Bezenye is about to start. The first phase of the €300m project will include a casino, a high-end hotel, conference center and several discos and restaurants. Hard Rock International is one of the project’s investors. Once completed, the casino center would add an additional 11,000 jobs to the the local market. Just 6 kilometers from the Slovak border, it’s considered one the biggest tourism investments in Central Europe and the first Hungarian casino center. There have been numerous reports in the past of casino projects planned on either side of the border, not least because of its proximity to Vienna, so it will be interesting to see if this most recent attempt comes to fruition.
