The modernization of power networks is lagging significantly behind the installation of renewable energy sources in Europe, according to the Czech Industry and Trade Minister, Martin Kuba. The minister was also quoted in ČTK saying that sudden power transfers from wind farms in northern Germany increase blackout threats in the Czech Republic. Financial support of renewable energy attracts companies that prefer to invest in subsidized projects. Unlike Germany, which plans to replace nuclear energy with renewable resources, the Czech Republic’s new energy strategy is based on nuclear energy, and financial support of renewable sources should be lowered, Kuba said. The grid operator CEPS will inject CZK 3.6bn into the modernization and construction of power infrastructure this year. By 2024, CZK 63bn should be invested in the project.
