Next year, Bucharest City Hall will transform Unirii Boulevard (the area between Unirii Square and Constitution Square) into a pedestrian zone, as the area is to be rehabilitated.
This will create a new commercial street in the capital similar to Victoria, Magheru or Dorobanţi Boulevards that planners envision as becoming similar to major European capitals such as Rome (via Condotti, Via del Corso), Zurich (Banhofstrasse) or Barcelona (la Rambla).
The costs for this transformation will run to approximately €200m, said Doru Giugula, counselor in the General Council of Bucharest. This program provides for downtown revitalization, creating a brand for tourists and investors and boosting the economy, according to Mediafax.
