Czech finance minister Miroslav Kalousek is planning to audit state orders in the Central Bohemian region that were connected with the region’s ex-governor David Rath, who is currently in custody on charges of corruption. The auditors will focus on orders worth billions of crowns, organized by a company called ML Compet and financed from EU funds.
The company is suspected of manipulating public tenders in the region. A shortlist of the suspicious projects has been chosen and sent to the European Commission. ML Compet is said to be connected with the Social Democratic party, which controlled the Central Bohemian Region through governor Rath. Among the investments being checked are two orders for the reconstruction of the Příbram hospital (worth CZK 250m) and the construction of a new pavilion at the Kladno hospital worth CZK 300m.
