A lawyer entrusted with the analysis of major contracts Prague’s transport company DPP signed over the past few years has told Czech Television that the company was controlled by an organized crime group. He explained that the group laundered the profits through firms it established in Cyprus. The damage from the overpriced and disadvantageous contracts runs to the hundreds of millions of crowns.
Top 09, a coalition partner on the Prague City Council has demanded a tender for a new DPP director to be held as soon as possible to replace Vladimír Lich, who was fired last week. The Civic Democrats (ODS), the senior coalition partner, plan to meet today to discuss the case, against a background of increasing rancor within its Prague membership. Lich says an attack against Prague’s mayor Bohuslav Svoboda (ODS) is behind his dismissal.
