Prague transport company scandals leads to high politics

20 August 2012

The disadvantageous deals concluded by the former management of the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) should be classified as organized crime, according to the head of Transparency International David Ondračka. The group has assisted in the recent investigation of the contracts, leading to criminal charges being filed against DPP’s former top management. Inevitably, as most city companies in Prague are run by its ruling political class, this means that powerful politicians are now under investigation.
What’s surprising is that Czech anti-corruption police raided the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) headquarters last week in search of documents related to these criminal charges. The lucrative contracts in question include terms that essentially make them irrevocable, according to media reports.
