Hungary has secured the last environmental permit necessary to allow the construction of a 384 km section of the Nabucco pipeline to move forward. The announcement makes Hungary the first country involved to have all the necessary permits in place. The obtainment was a two step process, consisting of the submission of Preliminary Environmental Impact Assessment (PEIA) to environmental protection inspector, to Nature conservation and Water affairs (IENWs), and later the submission of a detailed EIA studies to the same authorities.
This success demonstrates the advanced stage of development of Nabucco West, said Reinhard Mitschek, the managing director of Nabucco project. The pipeline is a joint venture between Hungary’s MOL oild company, Germany’s RWE, Vienna- based OMV, Bulgargaz EAD, Romania’s Transgaz SA and Turkey’s Boru Hatlari ile Petrol Tasima AS, or Botas. It will connect eastern Turkey with Baumgarten, Austria.
