Works on the pipeline to Bulgaria begin

Works on a gas pipeline between Romania and Bulgaria has begun. The pipeline will be located between Ruse and Giurgiu and will have a length of 25 km.

The total value of the project is €24m of which €11m will be provided by the Bulgarian state and €9m will come from European funds.

The total Romanian contribution is to amount to €4m. The project is important for Bulgaria as it will mean it can receive gas supplies even if the pipeline from Ukraine runs dry. Its capacity is said to be 1.5bn cubic meters per year.
