Holcim Romania growth no higher than 2-3 percent in 2012

5 July 2012

The construction materials producer Holcim Romania saw its business rise 13 percent last year to €222m, after two years of decline. For 2012, the company is predicting another 2 to 3 percentage points of growth, if all goes well. That’s the prediction of Daniel Bach, general manager of the factory. Referring to developments on the cement market, he said he expects stagnation this year.

In the first quarter of 2011, cement sales decreased by 6.7 percent on top of a drop in prices of 1.6 percent. Daniel Bach also said that investments in a new Holcim factory in Romania, which had been planned before the crisis, is now unlikely to be realized in the next five years.

Holcim (Romania) SA is part of Holcim Group, one of the world’s leading suppliers of cement, ready-mixed concrete, as well as aggregates (gravel and sand) and constructions-related services. The company owns and operates two cement plants in Campulung and Alesd, one grinding station in Turda, 18 environment-friendly ready-mixed concrete plants, 5 aggregates plants, 2 special binders plants, one cement terminal in Bucharest and one in Turda.
