The Czech National Library (NK) was sentenced to pay a €50,000 fine as the court ruled that architect Jan Kaplický’s London based studio shouldn’t have won the international competition for the design of a new national library in Prague in 2007. The Prague district court found in favor of HSH Architekti, one of the losers, who claimed that the conditions in the international architectural competition had been changed during the course of the competition. The court ruled that the competition’s jury has chosen Kaplický’s design even though it was contrary to the original conditions spelled out in the tender. It decided that the Czech National Library would have to pay a fine amounting to the difference between second and third place, according to iHned.cz.
