The estimated value of the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in Romania during January-May 2012 came to $800m, almost twice the sum registered a year ago, although the number of transactions dropped from 59 to 52, according to Ernst & Young (E&Y).

The values of those deals in which the transaction values were published came to $330m for the first five months of the year, compared to just $216m over the same period of 2011.

By extrapolation, E&Y estimates for the first five months a total market of $798m, against $408m in the first five months of 2011. The average value per transaction increased from $20m to more than $30m.
