Adrian Nastase tries to suicide after being sentenced to prison

21 June 2012

Former Prime Minister Adrian Nastase tried to commit suicide on Wednesday night after police came to pick him up. He shot himself in the neck. Nastase asked the police officers to let him go into his study to take some books and instead tried to shoot himself. One of the agents tried to stop him but Nastase had already pulled the trigger. He was rushed to Floreasca Hospital.

This action stems from the fact that the Supreme Court of Justice and Cassation on Wednesday sentenced former Prime Minister Adrian Nastase to two years in prison after being found guilty of illegally raising funds for his 2004 presidential campaign. The case is known as the ‘Quality Trophy’.

The sentence is definitive and will be executed. Former Premier Adrian Nastase has pleaded not guilty. Adrian Nastase is the first Romanian leader who will be making prison since the 1989 fall of communism.
