Possibly the largest project in the works in Bucharest at the moment, Dambovita Center at Casa Radio, has been halted since the onset of the financial crisis. Plaza Centers, the developer of the project, stopped all investments in Romania in 2009, but this year it had planned to restart work on it.
In 2008, introduce Mega Designer Outlets, a second outlet shopping center in Bucharest (after Fashion House), but the construction on it was also abandoned.
In terms of office buildings, the most advanced project whose construction was stopped was Anchor Plaza Metropol on Timisoara Boulevar. Anchor Grup, the developer of the project, stopped work in 2008 and has yet to re-started the scheme.
Avrig 35, the company founded by businessman Alexander Hergan, stopped work in an office building near Obor Market. Only parking was completed.
Meanwhile, Belgian Group Atenor postponed the completion of the first building business park in Hermes Business Campus from Pipera.
Among the residential complexes with stopped works in Bucharest are: Planorama (just 280 of the 1,100 apartments have been built), Primavara Lujerului (1,000 apartments), Laguna Residence (500 units), Cortina Residence (270 units) and the project started by George Becali in Pipera, consisting of 228 apartments. In all, the five projects represent approximately 2,800 units abandoned at various stages of completion.
