Overpriced motorway tenders cancelled

14 June 2012

The Czech State Highway Authority (ŘSD) has cancelled 34 tenders for highway and motorway construction projects, fearing that the result will be excessively expensive. The new director of ŘSD David Čermák explained that the tenders were launched all at once, which could push the final price higher than if they were launched separately. This does not mean construction work would stop on roads across the country, but the documentation will be changed and tenders will be launched for the separate orders as needed. Among the tenders to be cancelled are new sections of the D3 motorway and extensions of the Prague ring road around Běchovice, Ruzyně and Suchdol.
