Cohesion funds for Hungary to be reduced

8 June 2012

Eniko Gyori, the EU affairs state secretary for Hungary, has said that the €8bn provided to Hungary from EU cohesion funds since 2004 have helped boost the country’s GDP by 9 percent. However, Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Regional Policy said that the level of cohesion funds support will be falling. Hahn added that despite the decrease, the financial support given to Hungary will be still far above the European average. The level of EU financial support to Hungary between 2014 and 2020 is planned to be €230 per inhabitant, while the EU average is around €90 and only €22 in the most developed countries.
