Ploiesti and Barcanesti City Halls, County Council and the General Union of Industrialists in Romania (UGIR) have come together to develop the country’s largest sports complex in southern Ploiesti.
To be called Olimpic Complex, the project’s costs are currently estimated at €600 m and will cover 175 ha.
It includes the construction of an Olympic-sized swimming pool with 4,000 seats that’s been approved for international competition. It will also include pools certified to host international polo, diving and synchronized swimming competitions, as well as an athletics stadium with a capacity of up to 8,000 seats; two indoor arenas with a capacity up to 18,000 seats suitable for gymnastics,wrestling, handball, basketball, and other sports. Among the other items planned are an ice-rink and short-track for speed skating; tennis courts, 9 football fields, a concert hall and an amusement park.
