Czech Transport Minister calls for cuts of EU financed programs

4 June 2012

The number of operating programs financed from the EU funds should be reduced from the current 24 to just five to seven, says the Czech Transport Minister Pavel Dobeš. In his opinion, each region could make do with one. The simplification of the whole system of European funding in the Czech Republic should make it more transparent and prevent the improper distribution of funds. The EU recently cancelled payments under some of the programs because of problems with misuse of the funds. Dobeš hopes these restrictions will not affect reconstruction of the D1 motorway running from Prague to Brno, an investment likely to cost more than CZK 24bn.
