The collapse of the Hungarian national airline, Malév caused a 13% drop in passenger traffic to Ferenc Liszt International Airport. CEO Jost Lammers said that Budapest Airport was the biggest loser from bankruptcy of Hungary’s airline, and that it was being hurt still further by property tax. Terminal 1 had to be closed at the end of May, and it’s expected to remain closed for five years. Budapest Aiport closed 2011 with a HUF 8bn loss and Lammers expects a bigger loss of HUF 12bn in 2012. The situation is pushing the company into a re-think of its pricing policy.
