PDL asks Ponta to increase state salaries by 16 percent

9 May 2012

The Democrat-Liberal Party (PDL) has asked the Victor Ponta government to increase state salaries by 16 percent, as the the previous Ungureanu government had promised, and not just by just 8 percent, which is the current proposal.
PDL representatives insist an 8 percent hike should be considered a failure in neogtiations with the IMF and EC.
Ponta says the state employees will receive 8 percent salary hikes, getting them closer to the level they were in 2010, when the government slashed them by roughly 24 percent.
A further 15 percent hike in wages for public sector employees could take place in October, said Ponta.
