Long-standing concern over the existence of corruption in the city of Liberec has surfaced again with reports that police there suspect local politicians of violating their fiduciary duties. A spokeswoman for the Liberec police says an investigation is ongoing over whether politicians there were guilty of a conflict of interest when they accepted higher salaries from the city hospital than their contracts as members of the supervisrory board called for. Police are also looking into who was responsible for approving the payments. The Liberec regional governor, however, believes the investigation will be halted as the entire matter, in his words, is “nonsense.”
