Members of parliament can not have other jobs

11 April 2012

After the next elections, parliamentary deputies will no longer be allowed to hold down other jobs, except for tutorial and cultural work. More to the point, they will not be allowed to accept payment for any other activities. The alleged aim of the bill is ensure the politicians do their job on a professional level, and being free of other jobs should relieve them of other responsibilities. In fact, it’s part of a popular backlash by Hungarians against the current state of government, which ordinary people suspect is riddled with conflicts of interests and corruption.
