Goldman Sachs considers USD 3bn European property fund

With bank financing for real estate investments declining, Goldman Sachs is considering setting up a USD 3bn private equity fund that would seek to fill the ever-widening European funding gap. The fund would provide soft loans as well as hybrid forms of financing like mezzanine that contain elements of debt and equity. The lender plans to invest in rental properties, a sector it sees providing a potentially higher rate of return.
