An agreement on pension reform is expected to be announced today, following talks between the two government coalition parties PO and PSL on raising the retirement age to 67. The compromise came after Polish Peopleā Party (PSL) was able to push its proposal that those who chose to retire before the age of 67 wouldnāt forfeit their claim to a pension. Men who waited until age 65 are to receive 80 percent of what they would, while women can collect 50 percent of their total if they retire at age 62. However, the Solidarity trade union continues to demand a national referendum on the issue, having set up a āretirement villageā outside the Prime Ministerās Office in Warsaw. The motion on calling a referendum is set to vote in Parliament on Friday.
