Deutsche Bank leapfrogs BNP Paribas on total assets

For the first time in five years, Deutsche Bank is back on the top of the European bank rankings for total assets in 2011. It deposed PNB Paribas which had held the spot. Deutsche Bank recorded a 14 percent rise in assets to €2.16 trillion last year, roughly 80% of Germany’s gross national product. At the same time, Deutsche Bank has the second highest level of leveraging of Europe’s top ten banks, and has the 3rd lowest level of capitalization.
