Czech construction sector at dead end in 2012

27 March 2012

The Czech construction sector is set to have a difficult year in 2012 thanks to economic weakness and budget cuts. Civil engineering construction will continue to fall as major road and rail investments are cancelled or postponed. PMR predicts in a recent report that a return to growth can only be expected beginning next year. It’s likely that none of the 34 km of motorways due for completion this year will open for traffic. A rebirth in activity will be led by unfreezing projects that were prepared, but put on hold. However, projects where the planning process was halted entirely will take longer to restart.
