Romanians who signed up for private, voluntary home insurance will have to prove it to city authorities. A new regulation made it necessary for all Romanians who hadn’t done so to take mandatory policies.
However, since there’s a central registry for mandatory policies, but no such record for voluntary policies, they will have to produce proof. According to the Romanian Insurance Supervisory Commission, Romanians signed up for 4.4 million voluntary policies and just 574,000 mandatory ones on a total housing stock of 8.4 million homes.
