London-based Fitch Ratings claims that yesterday’s report of Polish Geological Institute on the estimated shale gas supplies across Poland could transform Poland’s energy sector. Even though the report is perceived to be “disappointing”, reducing the estimates for shale gas deposit from 5.3 trillion to just 346 billion cubic metres, Fitch argues that Poland could still lower it dependence on gas imports. The agency say it does not envision a huge reduction in gas prices to result, but it still sees the new deposits as substantial.
