Czech ministries have been ordered to cut their budgets by 4% across the board, to make up for expected tax revenues shortfalls caused by the poor economic outlook for the country. According to the daily Hospodarske noviny, Finance minister Miroslav Kalousek says that any minister that doesn’t have the stomach for it should leave the government. Some ministers are pledging to cut operating expenses for their organizations while others have come up with structural changes to their budgets. The ministry of Industry for example is planning both organizational changes along with a reduction in subsidies. The Ministry of Interior is unlikely to have the courage to cut the wages of the country’s cops and is therefor likely to look for operational expenses that could be slashed.
