In 2011 the businesses of mobile telecommunications operators represented the equivalent of 3% of GDP of Romania. Their direct contributions to the national economy totaled RON 7.03 bn, according to KPMG Romania.
For example, direct contributions of mobile operators represent almost half budget of the Ministry of Education according to the director of technology, media and telecommunications of KMPG Romania, Mihai Rada.
Direct purchases of mobile operators, fixed assets and services amounted to RON 4.2 bn in 2011, and contributions paid by them to various state budgets have reached RON 2.13 bn.
KPMG representative said that the telecommunications market in Romania is the most competitive in Europe, served by five operators – Vodafone, Orange, Cosmote, RCS & RDS and Telemobil.
