Over 73% of Romanians people gave up going to the doctor in 2010 because of the high costs involved in a medical visit, according to a study released by the Romanian Association of International Medicines Manufacturers (ARPIM).
The association’s deputy executive director Cristian Lutan says the figure is all the more alarming because it includes people who pay their health care contributions regularly, but go for check ups only when their situation worsens.
The average amount spent on health care across Europe per citizen is €1,800, but in Romania, the figure is just €600.
