Weak złoty boosts JWS profits

14 March 2012

The high price of coal and coke along with the weak złoty have helped push up the profits of JWS (Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa) to PLN 2.1bn for 2011. The strong results were achieved despite falling coal output and marked a 40 percent profit increase off revenues that rose 28.6 percent. JSW CEO Jarosław Zagórowski says he will be focusing on the production of coke production, expecting to increase output due to the high margins on offer. “We have entered the new markets with the product, including Ukraine, Hunagry and Bosnia,” he said.
