The first demonstration against government’s plan to raise the retirement age to 67 is to be held by the Solidarity trade union on March 22 in Poland’s capital. Solidarity leader Piotr Duma has also announced that upcoming protest will kick off a wave of the demonstrations planned to take place in Warsaw in the coming months. Four days after Solidarity’s first protest, the union will be holding a second strike outside the Prime Minister’s Office and the Parliament building. It’s a reaction to the prime minister’s vote against a referendum on the unpopular pension reform plans. The situation could become graver, however, as Solidarity also plans to organize protests during the upcoming Euro 2012 championships.
