Czech government searches for new road money

13 March 2012

Outlays by the Czech government on its road network have fallen from CZK 96bn in 2010 to just CZK 66bn this year, leading the Minister of Transportation Pavel Dobes to spearhead an attempt to siphon money from the state company Lesy CR. The wood processing concern has CZK 10bn on its accounts, money the minister suggests could be lent to the state budget until 2020. “Since the years 2013 and 2014 will be the worst from a budgeting point of view, I think these financial resources would be an enormous help,” he told Czech Television. Dobes went further, suggesting that an additional CZK 29bn could be saved by delaying payments to construction companies.
