Hungary’s government says it’s working hard to solve its issues with the European Union, not least because it needs to get precautionary loan negotiations underway with both the EU and the International Monetary Fund. The country’s foreign minister Janos Martonyi insists the government is intent on doing a deal, despite the prime minister Viktor Orban’s previous calls for Hungary to be financially independent. “There is no plan B or plan C.” It’s unclear whether Hungary definitely needs the fresh tranche of money, but with predictions of a slowdown in Western Europe, it’s looking increasingly likely.
