EU leaders have decided making a decision on Romania’s accession to the Schengen treaty until September, according to the draft final statement of the European Council summit, which was obtained by AFP. Going forward, Europe will help Bucharest identify the measures needed to adopt in order to be able to join Schengen on that date.
Romania expects a refusal at the summit, because of opposition from the Netherlands, which believes the cpimtru has not made enough progress in securing the borders and fighting corruption.
