Poland’s Sports Minister Joanna Mucha has suspended the payment of PLN 57,000 (€)to Rafal Kapler, the former chairman of National’s Sports Centre (NCS) supervisory board. The bonus was to be paid under a contract Kapler concluded with the Ministry of Sports in connection with the construction of the National Stadium.
As he was in charge of the project, he quit after it emerged that an occupancy permit could not be secured in time, meaning the stadium’s opening would be delayed from June 2011 to January 29. Mucha also revealed her decision to disclose two more agreements, both confidential, and both signed by NCS’s supervisory board vice-presidents, Robert Wojtas and Janusz Kubicki. The stakes are high, according to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, as withholding Kepler’s payment could result in a trial, one that minister Mucha is likely to lose.
