Prime Minister Ungureanu urges single-source drug procurement

Prime Minister Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu has demanded a centralized list for the procurement of drugs intended for chronically ill patients. A single source is being demanded by the the PM in order to prevent situations in which important drugs are in dangerously low supply. The Romanian Government has earmarked over €170,000 (750,000 lei) to the Health Ministry from the country’s Reserve Fund for the immediate purchase of morphine supplies needed for the treatment of the cancer patients, announced the Government spokesman, Dan Suciu.
The Secretary of State for Health Vasile Cepoi claimed that the ministry holds a certain level of supplies of such drugs in supply, but they can only be used in specific situations.
