Brussels has taken drastic action against the Polish government’s by withholding close to PLN 312m from the regional program Innovative Economy. A letter regarding the matter has already been sent to Poland’s ambassador at the European Union outlining the discovery of substantial deficiencies in the functioning of the management and control system for the program. European Union regulations allow countries to fail to live up to a maximum of 2 percent of the conditions laid out for the Innovate Economy Program. But Poland was found to deficient in 3.7 percent of the conditions. One of the biggest problems continues to be violations in the procedures followed in tenders for public contracts in Poland. Until the situation is rectified, no applications for subsidies for the program will be accepted. The Regional Development Ministry has been deemed responsible for the mistakes and has three months to explain the problem and to find a solution, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reports.
