UBM Development AG is making significant strides towards its strategic goal of leading the development of timber-frame projects across Europe. With over 300,000 square meters of timber buildings already in the pipeline for 2024, UBM is pioneering sustainable and innovative construction solutions throughout the continent.
In Frankfurt’s prestigious business district, UBM has completed the Timber Pioneer, the first timber office building with a hybrid structure, securing Universal Investment as its anchor tenant. Meanwhile, groundbreaking has commenced for several ambitious projects, including the Timber Factory in Munich, Timber Peak in Mainz, and the LeopoldQuartier Office complex in Vienna. These developments exemplify UBM’s commitment to integrating sustainable practices into urban landscapes.
Aligned with its “green. smart. and more.” strategy, UBM has reaffirmed its environmental targets through the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Recognized internationally, these targets aim to reduce Scope 1+2 emissions by 42% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. UBM stands out as one of the few real estate companies in Austria and Germany with approved Science Based Targets, emphasizing its dedication to sustainability and climate responsibility.
Key Projects
• Timber Factory, Munich: This mixed-use district covering 28,000 square meters will accommodate life sciences, robotics, IT, and light industrial production alongside offices and retail units. It represents Munich’s largest timber building project, set to deliver approximately 59,500 square meters of space by 2027.
• LeopoldQuartier, Vienna: Located along the Danube Canal, this pioneering urban district spans nearly three hectares and will feature residential apartments and office spaces. The project incorporates high ceilings, natural wooden surfaces, and advanced energy-efficient technologies, aiming for DGNB Platinum certification.
• Timber Peak, Mainz: As Rhineland-Palatinate’s tallest timber hybrid structure, Timber Peak will rise over 40 meters with twelve floors of flexible office space. The project underscores UBM’s innovation in sustainable urban development and promises panoramic views from its terrace amenities.
UBM’s commitment extends beyond Germany and Austria. In the Czech Republic, UBM Development Czechia is completing Timber Prague, marking Prague’s first multi-storey residential timber buildings. This initiative is part of broader efforts to promote sustainable construction practices and influence legislative changes in timber building regulations.
UBM’s vision for timber buildings in Europe continues to reshape urban landscapes, offering sustainable solutions and setting new benchmarks for environmentally conscious development. With ongoing projects and ambitious targets, UBM remains at the forefront of sustainable real estate innovation across the continent.
