Czech Post plans to auction a branch in the centre of Olomouc, minimum price CZK 130 million

Czech Post is preparing an electronic auction of the former post office building on Horní náměstí in the historic centre of Olomouc. The starting price of the property has been set at CZK 130 million, according to an expert opinion. Czech Post (ČP) announced on its website. The post office on Horní náměstí was on the list of offices that ČP closed in the middle of last year.

The offered building of the former post office on Horní náměstí has eight floors and includes a 1,101-square-metre plot. There are several apartments on the upper floors of the building. The building is located in the historical centre, so its possible reconstruction requires the approval of the conservation authorities. Previously, the town hall was interested in the Upper Square branch. However, according to the deputy mayor Otakar Štěpán Bačák (spOLečně), ČP does not intend to have a branch there even under the Posta Partner regime, so this property in the centre of Olomouc is no longer so interesting for the city.

The town hall has now turned its attention to a large postal building in Ladova Street in Olomouc-Hejčín, which ČP wants to sell in an electronic auction. The starting price for the building with land occupying nearly 13,000 square metres is CZK 119 million. A post office and a depot operate on the site. ČP intends to conclude a lease agreement with the new owner for a part of the premises, which will be further used for postal services. For the planned purchase and reconstruction of the branch in Ladova Street, the City Hall plans to use half of the approved CZK 400 million investment loan.

ČP in Olomouc is also offering for sale a former branch in Litovelská Street near the city centre. It will hold an electronic auction on 10 May. The minimum purchase price for the property with a total area of 87 sqm has been set at CZK 3.87 million.

In recent months, ČP has been selling properties all over the Czech Republic, the reason for which, according to its spokesman Ivo Vysoudil, is an effort to stabilise the company’s management before its transformation. To save money, the post office closed 300 of its 3,200 branches in the middle of last year and laid off 1,500 people. Olomouc lost seven post offices at the end of June last year, half their original number. The town hall disagreed with the closure of branches in Horní náměstí and Holice, fearing a deterioration in the availability of postal services. The Upper Square branch was well attended and had wheelchair access.
