Písek is planning the construction of a new district to be built in the former Žižkov barracks. The project envisages 130 flats, a car park and various shops. The city wants young families to live in the new district. Petra Trambová (TOP 09), the deputy mayor of Písek said during a meeting of the town council today.
“We planned from the beginning that the Žižkov barracks would be used primarily for housing. We were just deciding how to deal with the large space. Now we have a study which, for example, dealt with the size of the apartments,” Trambová said. The city leadership is pushing for more than half of the apartments to have a minimum layout of 3+ bedrooms with a balcony. Písek anticipates that up to 500 residents could live in the complex. The total floor area of the apartments is nearly 10,000 square meters.
The new district will include a kindergarten in addition to a smaller department store. Its capacity will be up to 100 places. “As the city’s leadership, we had to prioritize what the district should look like and who we wanted to build it for. We are also counting on a smaller supermarket and other shops, other services such as cafes to also ensure that the location is well served,” the deputy mayor said.
The car park would have a capacity of 276 spaces. In addition, there would be another hundred spaces for parking in the new district. There would also be a public open space on an area of more than a hectare. “There should be greenery inside the houses and outside for living space,” she said.
The city anticipates that much of the new neighborhood will be built by developers. City Hall will likely build a parking structure and also a preschool, which it will operate. “We want some preliminary market consultation to see how economically interesting our plan is and will make sense to investors,” the deputy mayor said.
The former barracks, which housed an infantry regiment until 2005, covers an area of about eight hectares. A private investor has built a technology centre on about 1.5 hectares. There is also a psychiatric hospital on the site.
