CEVA Logistics to develop finished vehicle logistics on the site of the port of Dunkirk

25 March 2024

CEVA Logistics intends to build a comprehensive logistics park on the site of the port of Dunkirk, with which it has just signed a land lease. This is a strategic decision to enable CEVA to increase the efficiency and resilience of its automotive customers’ supply chains.

On a 9.5 hectare site located in the eastern part of the port of Dunkirk, CEVA will launch a new logistics park dedicated to handling exported and imported vehicles passing through the port of Dunkirk.

The logistics park will include vehicle reception and storage areas, as well as loading and unloading areas for trains and trucks carrying cars. Construction will begin in October 2024. Initially, CEVA plans to handle around 47,000 vehicles per year, with a target of 95,000 from March 2025. These forecasts are based on CEVA’s analyses with major car manufacturers, who are interested in shipping car shipments through the port of Dunkirk. It is the gateway to the French battery valley and the only European port offering an ecosystem related to electric mobility.

In addition, a 600 m² workshop will be set up at CEVA’s logistics park, which will enable on-site preparation activities such as washing, engraving, mounting of number plates and other detailing services (cleaning, polishing and waxing) for 50,000 vehicles a year. A paint shop is also planned, which will include the installation of an electric vehicle charging station and a service station.

In the medium term, CEVA will double its capacity with an additional 10.5 ha of land, bringing the total area of the logistics park to 20 ha and the number of parking spaces to 8,700.

As Europe’s leading operator specialising in finished vehicle logistics, with an extensive multimodal network, CEVA has a fleet of 3,000 trucks and 3,000 wagons. In addition to being able to charter deep-sea vessels for the transport of cars, CEVA has a number of assets at its disposal to develop intermodal connections at the Port of Dunkirk and attract additional volumes.

The opening of a rail siding as well will allow CEVA to accelerate its service times, booking one or two rail connections per week and using part of its own truck fleet to transport vehicles.
