Insolvency administrator from Č. Budějovice insolvency practitioner embezzled CZK 67 million

11 March 2024

Police have charged an insolvency administrator from České Budějovice with embezzling CZK 67 million. The money was siphoned off into his accounts from debt-ridden companies he managed on behalf of the court for 13 years. He faces up to 10 years in prison for embezzlement. Police reported on the case on their website today.

Prosecutors said the insolvency practitioner embezzled the money between 2009 and 2022 and defrauded creditors in nine dozen cases during that time. “He collected the embezzled funds and probably used them for his own use. All this despite the fact that his main job was to rescue and collect funds for creditors. He did so with the intention of gaining financial gain, even though he was a person who had a special duty to protect the interests of creditors,” said Jiří Matzner, a spokesman for the South Bohemian police.

The accused, according to police, has damaged creditors in cases that have been heard by courts in a number of places. Those cases were in České Budějovice, Brno and Prague. Police have not filed a request for detention and are prosecuting the insolvency administrator at large.
